About the Author
Tony Arrell, CM
Tony ascribes many of his personal values to his small-town rural background: values built on humility, work ethic, conservatism and philanthropy. Early in his career, he received the mentorship of a great investor and businessman, George Gardiner, which helped form his beliefs on business, investments and people. As a young analyst in his mid-twenties, an encounter with Berkshire Hathaway also contributed to Tony’s philosophy on business and investment analysis. Tony feels very fortunate that he had valuable pre-Burgundy experiences with boards and management of both private and public companies, giving him a useful background for the leadership and development of Burgundy since 1993.

Tony has stayed active in the broader business community throughout his career. Besides his current roles, he formerly served on the board of the Toronto Stock Exchange, St. Michael’s Hospital and was a founding member of the Canadian Coalition of Good Governance. Tony has focused his philanthropic efforts on education, health and the arts. He has dedicated much of his time to the Canadian Opera Company, the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and his alma mater, the University of Guelph.
